Notice of initiation of the mining authorisation procedure

The Environment Agency publishes a notice under paragraph 47(2) of the General Law on the Environment (KeÜS).

The Environment Agency reports that Enefit Kaevandused AS (registry code: 10032389) (address: Jaama tn 10, Municipality of Jõhvi, County of East Viru 41533) has submitted an application for extension of authorisation KMIN-067 to exploit the mineral resources of the Tammik mine.

The Tammik mine, with a mountain allocation of 4013,93 ha, is located in the territory of the municipalities of Jõhvi and Alutagus and the town of Kohtla-Järve in Ida-Viru county. As of 31.12.2017, the textiles related to the mining reserves of the Tammik mine are 33,746 million tonnes of oil shale, of which 5,47 million tonnes are mined.

According to the application, THE validity of authorisation KMIN-067 for the extraction of mineral resources in the Tammik mine is extended for 10 years, i.e. until 10.08.2029, in order to ensure the restoration of the extracted site. No further extraction of oil shale is planned in the mining reserves of the Tammik mine.

The Environment Agency examined the application for authorisation to exploit mineral resources in order to comply with the requirements laid down in the Mineral oil Act. That application complied with the form of order sought.

The request for extension of the mining permit and other relevant documents can be consulted at the nearest Office of the Environment Agency (+372 674 4803, info@keskkonnaamet.ee).
The application is available digitally from the Register of documents of the Environment Agency at http://dhs-ADR-kea.envir.ee/.

Until such time as a decision is taken to extend or not renew the mining permit, everyone has the right to submit reasoned proposals and objections to the application to the Environment Agency. Proposals and objections may be submitted orally or in writing to the e-mail address info@keskkonnaamet.ee or to the postal address Viljandi mnt 16, 11216 Tallinn.

The preparation of the draft extension of the mining permit will be further notified by the Environment Agency in the Official Gazette Ametlikud Teadaanded.
