Keskkonnaamet publishes this announcement under Section 21 and clause 1 of subsection 2 of § 16 of the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management System Act (KeHJS).
Environmental Board announces the publication of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for the Extension and operation of the desert peat production area.
The Environmental Board initiated the EIA accompanying the extension and operation of the peatland production area of Kõrsa by letter No 12-2/20/122-4 of 18.03.2020.
The objective of the proposed activity is to extend the existing piggy peat production area (56801:005:0276 and 56801:001:1363) of cadastral units located on state land (56801:005:0277, 56801:001:1157, 56801:001:1159, 56801:001:1364, 56801:001:1158, 56801:005:0276 and 56801:001:1363) located in the village of Seljametsa in Pärnu County.
The purpose of submission of an application for an extraction permit is to ensure the exhaustion of peat stocks and the proper restoration of areas in the mining allocation and adjacent areas previously extracted. According to the application for a permit for extraction of mineral resources, the area of the mining claim in the peat production area is 174.39 ha, along with the service area 210.19 ha. In the mountain allocations of the desert, the total stock of peat to be extracted is 338 ash, of which the extracted stock of well-degraded peat is 77 ash and the stock of low-degraded peat is 261 ash. the extracted mineral resources are planned to continue to be used in horticulture and energy. A maximum annual peat extraction capacity of 7 ash is planned and the permit is applied for for for 30 years
